Despite the weather - or maybe because of it? - it's been an interesting season so far. Trips to the Dee, the Spey and the Dart have all seen salmon caught. There was a run of very big sea trout on the Dart in late May and some nice fish were caught, to add to many years of good memories there. I've an article in this summer's edition of Fieldsports magazine for anyone interested in reading more about the Dart.
I got back from the Spey in mid August, having had an exciting week on the Castle water. Fish were running hard but we managed to catch several salmon and grilse. Like most of the Scottish rivers, the Spey operates a catch and release policy so I'm pleased to say that all hen fish are returned to the water.
I've also been trout fishing fairly regularly at Eyebrook Reservoir, where conditions have been excellent. Next I'm off to the Dee in mid September and will be hoping for high water, which usually brings in a good run of salmon. I'll report the results next month.
